Mastersmith Test Dagger Revealed

Scott spent more time making his MS Test Dagger than all four of his other test knives combined. The stress of making the dagger was intense, and he is happy that the project is complete.

Blade Length: 13 inches
Overall Length: 19.5 inches
Guard: Parkerized steel with Damascus acorn finials

400 layers of 15n20 and 400 layers of 1095 forged together
Then twisted 40 times to produce the final billet

Now it's on to Atlanta to see what the judges think.

Hot Blued Damascus Tusk - Mastersmith Test Knife

Scott made a Damascus Tusk for his MS Test Set. Then he dressed it in Desert Ironwood and a Damascus guard, and hot-blued the steel for an amazing effect.

Tusk
Steel: 15n20/1095
Damascus Pattern: Twisted W's
Blade Length: 8.75 inches
Overall Length: 15.25 inches
Handle: Desert Ironwood

This is Scott's first hot-blued knife, but it will not be his last.

Zulu for Mastersmith Test Set

The Zulu is one of Scott's most popular designs so it was a natural choice for his MS Test Set.

Zulu
Steel: 15n20/1095 Mosaic Damascus
Blade Length: 4.75 inches
Overall Length: 9.75 inches
Guard: Damascus, coved black spacer, Damascus spacer
Handle: Desert Ironwood

Damascus Mamba - MS Test Knife

MS Test Knife #3 is a Damascus Mamba with Damascus guard, peened bronze spacer,
Damascus spacer, and African Blackwood handle.

Mamba
Steel: 15n20/1095
Blade Length: 8 inches
Overall Length: 13.75 inches

The Mamba is a tad longer, thicker, and deeper at the throat than our popular
Cottonmouth model. Put simply, it's a handful.

The Story of my MS Test Dagger

The Steel
400 layers of 15n20, 400 layers of 1095

Forged into twisted W's, then twisted 40 times to make the final billet

The number 40 symbolizes hardship, judgement and testing

This dagger represents my greatest test as a bladesmith so far

The Trinity
Three Damascus acorns

Three silver wires in each twisted inlaid strand

Three textures - Parkerized steel, peened bronze, and Damascus

The balance of three strengthens the one
