A Trio for Blade Show 2013

Scott forged a trio of knives while assisting at a beginning bladesmithing class at Haywood Community College in March, and he recently dressed them up for Blade 2013.

Meet the Hunger, Shiva, and Fang.

Shiva

Steel: W2 with hamon

Finish: Hammer-marked and hand-sanded

Handle: Flame Grain Walnut

Fang

Steel: 5160

Finish: Rustic (Hammer-marked)

Handle: Hemp wrap

Finish: Hammer-marked

Handle: Leopard wood

The Hunger features a forge-welded guard and peenned pins.

Native Plus One Equals Bovine Delight

We just received the following email from the Canadian wild. See what you think.

Hi Lydia and Scott,

Well, I decided rather than just being a beautiful piece of artwork that I had to follow Scott's wishes and put this blade to use.

So I went 'hunting' at our local Costco and picked up a 13 pound whole strip loin, which I always cut up to make New York steaks. The savings are great but the effort of having to cut the meat (even with our high end kitchen knives) has often left me wondering if it's worth the cost savings/effort. It usually takes me an hour to cut up a strip loin.

Enter the Native plus one...six minutes later I was finished! No effort, beautiful uniform steaks.

Thanks for a tremendous knife!

Sushi Knife

Scott just finished a sushi knife for a local chef. Single bevel O1 tool steel with a custom desert ironwood handle . . . uber thin, ultra light, and very hot!

Add an inch of blade, Desert Ironwood scales, and a "Regal" finish to a Native, and you get a sexy fighter/camp knife with a lot of style. Meet the Native Plus.

This one just arrived safely at its new home in Canada, and we look forward to hearing reports of far north adventures with moose and caribou and other such things.

From whence it came - hand forged from high carbon tool steel.
